How do I remove an AirTag that is unreachable?

I had an AirTag on my bag in a 3rd party case thing that holds the AirTag, and I came home from school and the back and battery were missing.

When I tried to remove the AirTag from find my, it showed a loading screen that never seems to finish and I need to refresh the app to close the menu. The AirTag never ends up removed from the items tab.

In theory, you would open the Find My app on the iPhone you initially paired this AirTag to. Then select the Items tab, where this AirTag should appear ... even if it no longer has a battery installed.. Then scroll down to the bottom of the Items screen Finally, tap on the "Remove Item" option. Again, that would be in theory, as I don't have an AirTag handy to verify this for you.

Should this not work, then I suggest you contact Apple Support directly for further assistance with this matter. To do so, simply select the "Support" link on the lower left-hand side of this forum's web page.
