Use of Apple Pay in iPad

Why does Apple Pay work on some merchant sites but not others even though both display the Apple Pay logo? I have received messages that ” the balance in account is not sufficient” even though I do not use Apple Cash.

This page can help out with providing some steps that may assist with resolving issues with the card in Apple Pay being declined: If a payment card that you use with Apple Pay is declined - Apple Support


1. Open Apple Wallet:
• On your iPhone, open the Wallet app.
• On your iPad, open the Settings app > Wallet & Apple Pay.
• On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Wallet & Apple Pay.
2. Select your payment card.
3. If you see the message "This card cannot be used," check if your bank or card issuer currently supports Apple Pay:
Apple Pay participating banks in Canada, Latin America, and the United States
Apple Pay participating banks in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East
Apple Pay participating banks and card issuers in Asia-Pacific
4. If you have more questions, contact your bank or card issuer.

Thank you but the problem is not that the credit card backing Apple Pay was denied. (Indeed I used the same card and entered it directly to complete the purchase.)

The issue is that clicking on the Apple Pay button gets no response. This has happened on a number of sites so I’m concluding it has something to do with Apply Pay interface on some websites.

Is your iPad up to date for the latest fixes? If not, we'd recommend updating the iPad: Update your iPhone or iPad


To make sure we're on the same page here, you mentioned receiving error, 'the balance in account is not sufficient' in which case you would need to contact your bank for further help with this matter.


However, you also mentioned that the Apple Pay button gets no response. Is this on the website to prompt Apple Pay? Do you receive the above error after tapping this button? The more details you can provide, the better we can assist.
