old car w/no bluetooth; ipod won't connect with just cable

Hiya - I have an older car that has a usb connection and a 1/4 in audio option.

This worked great with my older ipod.

I bought one of the last gen ipods (ios 15.7.8)

When I plug it into the cable in the car, the ipod recognizes it's connected but won't let me use any of the functions, it just keeps prompting me to connect to the car with bluetooth.

My car doesn't have bluetooth, and the ipod does this even when the bluetooth is disabled/off on the ipod.

I'm still able to use my older ipod (12.5.7 - maxed out updates here, no further updates for this model) with just the cable but it can't hold a charge so it's a bit of a thing to get it up and going.

I am hoping there's another way to get my car and the newer ipod to recognize each other without bluetooth.

Thanks!

Hi c_h77,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to hear any audio when your connect your iPod to your car via USB.

If you have access to an alternate USB cable, you can test it by connecting an alternate cable to your car and iPod and restart your car and iPod as outlined here: How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support

"Connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."

We hope this helps you.

Cheers!
