Itunes grayed out songs

A long time ago, when computers had the CD accessory on the side of it, and you could burn a CD into your iTunes library, I burned a bunch of my CDs into my iTunes library. Now, many of those songs are gray and I cannot play them. Does anyone know why this happens and how it can be fixed?
