Using Macs Fan Control to get temp down on my Mac mini as I am processing data packets 24/7. Case was pretty hot to touch so first tried external fans to some benefit. CPU was running hot around 200F until increasing the fan and now at 4000rpm, I'm getting about 165F average. GPU now around 140F.
Running the fan at 4000RPM is less of an issue than running it at the constantly high temperatures.
Constantly running at 165F will definitely increase the rate of degradation of many of the components in the Mini, i.e. will have a higher probability of failing at a young age.
I would either find additional ways of cooling down the Mini or in reality find a computer that can perform at that level of operation without overheating.
It won't take long for the fan bearings to seize up at that speed. Not sure what you are doing but obviously the Mac Mini is not capable of doing it, especially if you are mining bitcoins.
Apple will likely refuse service so be prepared to DIY.
The auto fan runs around there. I manually adjusted it. Anyway, I’m curious to see what happens… should be a cheap and easy replacement at which point I’ll have learned my lesson and have the data to share.

The default fan speed is 1700 or 1800 rpm depending on the model year.
True that the fan is the cheapest and easiest component to replace. The down fall to this practice, is that the Mac mini could seriously suffer if and when the fan dies.
The CPU will throttle down at higher temp's and yes the unit should shutdown before a total meltdown, but that doesn't necessarily prevent some type of heat damage from occurring to other components.

Apple has no overheat protection like an auto shutoff? That would seem disappointing... They'd definitely sell more computers though.
