Mini microphone cutting off my iphones audio

Recently a friend of mine gave me a min microphone that she bought. The connected cord isn’t the same I have on my phone (I have a iphone SE 2020 which only has the charging port now.) So i’ve decided to use an adapter. When I connect it the microphone works amazingly but I’m not able to listen to the audio on my phone without disconnecting the microphone from my phone. My friend told me that she never had this problem. I’ve tried the “forget all adapters” on the sounds and haptics in setting. I’ve pressed both the “Headphones” and “Other device” Option which hasn’t worked for me. Anyone have an answer?

Greetings nickelsandpennies,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

When you connect a Lightning adapter to your iPhone, you should definitely still be able to hear audio output from the built-in speakers on your iPhone until you connect headphones to that adapter. Was this a third-party adapter or did you purchase one that was manufactured by Apple? Using uncertified accessories can cause unexpected issues which is why we always recommend using components marked "Made for iPhone" or "MFi".

If you are using a third-party adapter, then we would recommend that you test the issue out using an MFi certified adapter instead and see if that makes a difference.

We hope this information is helpful!

Have a great day.
