My screen is blank just asking for a password

also typing in any password three times in a row does nothing
the password bar has no arrows or question marks

It would seem you are not at the login prompt. Which prompt you are at is unclear.
I’m computer illiterate … just bought my first laptop …. Opened it for the first time last week … now I don’t remember my password and I can’t login …. Please help
