Shared photos option won't stay enabled in ICloud for Windows

I have the latest version of ICloud for Windows installed with Windows 11 and have set photo options for syncing shared photos from my Apple devices. After making this setting the shared photos show up in the designated location on my PC but each time I shut down my PC and start it again shared photos in ICloud for Windows is disabled and I have to go back into settings in the ICloud for Windows account dialog and re-enable shared photos. I shut down my PC every day at the end of the day and start it up again in the morning so have to go through this process of re-enabling photo sharing and reloading photos every time I want to access them on my PC. It takes a long time, a couple of hours, for the photos to reload. How to I fix this so that shared photos stays enabled in ICloud for Windows even if I shut down my PC? Or can I save the shared photos to my hard drive so that they are there permanently or until I choose to delete them?

Hello,

I just discovered that if you disable these Apple programs from the boot sequence the shared folders (and there contents) remain on your HD in the Apple designated directory. When I boot my PC (Win 11) and launch the iCloud app it continues to download / update my shared album contents if the last time I launched the iCloud application wasn't long enough to finish that process.

Thank JS-Ber for your update as it is the only instance I have read that Apple is looking into this as an issue to resolve. Please continue to add as many write ups as possible such that Apple can resolve this issue.

For me it all started with the one iCloud update from months ago. Been struggling with this ever since.

This is what I configured via running MSCONFIG in the run window. (right click on the start icon and type run and then press enter. Then go to the tab start up then select open task manager. I disabled these on start up and it has helped a lot.

Take care and all the best,

Had exactly the same problem, for months, thought I was going mad! (only just found this thread) I had an older PC, running Windows 10, fully updated, same problem, couldn't solve it. I recently purchased a new PC with Windows 11 and all updated thinking it would sort this crazy problem out. I use my shared photos all the time. So so frustratiung, considering it worked well for year previously! Come on Apple?!?!?

I uninstalled 14.2.108 today and installed 14.2.122 from the Store ... same issue, most of my Shared Albums and their contents deleted at reboot. I have to go back into the iCloud control panel, log out, log back in, and re-enter settings to get it to come back to life and restore my albums (until the next reboot!) ... very disappointing after years of working perfectly fine.
