In Mail on my Mac: Cannot send message using iCloud server

My resent problem with Mail on my iMac is that when I send an email to myself (as a test), there is a whooshing sound, but the email disappears both on my Mac and on iCloud, i.e., no record of it in the Sent box.

Now I am getting the message when I attempt to send any kind of email: Cannot send message using iCloud server? I have no idea how to resolve this? Any ideas?

Remove the account and recreate it from scratch. On the add mail account panel, select iCloud and enter your correct pertinent credentials.

I get that error message from time to time and it eventually goes away. Busy server maybe, heavy internet traffic, ISP problems. Those things you have no control over. Set up your account correctly and be satisfied you have the correct details on your end.
