Copied this from a Reddit discussion, I had the same problem and was late for work because of it ‘just found a fix , you need to goto Face ID & passcode in settings and turn off attention aware !’ I’ve just tried it and it works, made me jump out of my skin as I had my volume full blast

Right. I read all of that. But the volume slider does, so if I’m on my phone late with my volume down, my alarm volume will also be down. So, suddenly, with the update, the alarm volume goes to nothing & unless I want to watch videos at full volume in the middle of the night, my iphone alarm is no longer useful.

Turn your volume up when you finish watching videos before you go to sleep. Or, set the alarm using Health, as I suggested.

Or buy a cheap alarm clock.

Why doesn’t anybody understand the separation of ring volume & audio volume from apps?

I completely understand it. Separate ringer and alarm volumes have been a feature on Android phones for years. But it has never been a feature of the iPhone.

However, if you are watching a video, you should be able to turn the volume down within that app without it affecting the ringer volume. I just tested this with YouTube. Adjusting the volume in the YouTube video had no effect on the ringer/alarm volume. Therefore, what you need to do is use the mute switch or Focus at night so that you don't hear the ringer but you can still adjust the volume of the video.

Just wanted to clarify that they were not the same prior.

It has been this way since the iPhone was released.

I have never had to adjust my volume slider for my alarm volume. It has always been very loud, even when my volume is very low. I use my phone a lot when I wake up in the night, and so I don’t disturb others, I have my volume very low. I fall asleep & am awakened by my loud alarm. I updated 2 days ago & now my alarm volume is the same as my volume slider. Since I’m disabled & on medications, I will always be up throughout the night & fall asleep without changing the volume slider. Thus making the phone alarm now useless. That’s a main feature of the phone for me.

I have explained to you how to make it work the way you want. It's very simple and, as long as you only adjust the video volume within the app, it should have no effect on your alarm volume. But, if you don't want to take my advice based on 20 years working in the cell phone industry, fine by me.

Best of luck.

I am having the same problem as her. And all of your fixes do not fix the issue. In the past the volume on the alarm was separate from the volume on your videos and phone features. You could pick a button on your alarm, and it said, start low and build louder. Or you could just set it to be loud. And it did not link with the sound of your videos. So for those of us that fall asleep, listening to podcasts, or with a video on our phone, and we watch it on low so that we can fall asleep. Our alarms now come on , but they come on at the same very low volume. We fell asleep to watching/listening on our phone the night prior. I understand that one of your recommendations is to turn the volume back up. But that would involve waking up in the middle of the night and remembering to turn the phone volume up so your alarm works. That’s not really a viable option. The best option would be for Apple to quit messing with simple features. I myself have missed two separate flights because of this issue. I’ve missed doctors appointments, meds for my dogs. Because I use my alarms for all of these things. But I don’t often have my phone volume on high blast all the time, and there is still no fix for this. I’ve called and spent much time on the phone with Apple, trying to fix it, the end result is, I should buy an Alarm Clock to travel with, or download another alarm app besides the Apple one. I have downloaded five separate alarm apps, and they all interrupt with ads. None of these are appropriate fixes. The appropriate fix now seems to be we all need to switch to androids.

i’m reading about the lack of separation of our alarm and our ringer we should be able to turn our ringer off on the phone turn it on silent so nobody calls us in the middle of the night and still have our alarm go off at seven in the morning to wake us up for work, why is that not an option? I turn my ringer volume down or I turned the ringer off. My alarm does not work and android has the option
