I take it the computer is not running?
In older Macs those "A" numbers were used more as a form-factor descriptor and, as dialabrain demonstrates, do not necessarily point to a year. "A1224" was used from Mid 2007 through mid 2009.
If the computer will not start, look at the underside of the stand's "foot."

Try a serial number lookup. You can try Apple's lookip servcie but I do not think it goes as far back as 2007-9:
