Macbook Recovery Assistance

I don’t know much about mac books, this is my first. I’m wondering if it’s normal for it to go straight to recovery assistance? I thought that only happens with used mac books? Mind you I just got this from Schewel’s (financed it) and it came wrapped brand new..

No...

A new Mac should start with a "hello" screen asking to select a language. That Mac is not new. I'd return it if I were you.
