Well if you go to settings>general>software update you can update it like you do on your iPhone 📱 but other factors can be the Mac model look are the copyright date on the bottom of the box that came with the Mac because some macs don’t support the newest version of macOS like my parents late 2013 iMac it can’t run anything newer that Big Sur meaning my parents can’t update to Monterey so your computer might not me new enough make sense
