do i need to be connected to internet to erase files from iMac (late 2012)

I have transferred all files to new iMac and I want to donate my old iMac. How do I delete files without reconnecting to the internet? Thanks for help, Deb

There is no need to connect to the Internet. What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support explains how to "sign out" of iCloud on that Mac, but if you erase it according to Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support, then all its files will have been erased.


You can omit Step 10. There is no need to reinstall macOS.
