Music Library won't update with music on NAS

Hi everyone

I have been storing my iTunes/Music library on a QNAP NAS for years now and accessing that library for my SONOS system. Recently I have had issues with my SONON re-indexing the library so yesterday after some research I split my library into smaller folders so that I could add smaller music libraries to my SONOS which worked. However, today when I went to update my Music library on my Mac it simply will not update. I have tried multiple things like renaming the Music Library file, deleting the Music folder and holding down Option whilst opening Music and then choosing to build a new library (at which point I point to the iTunes folder on my NAS with the sub-folders) but Music only shows me 81 albums and 729 songs - I have ~15k. Right now this is not a huge issue as I haven't added any Music for a while but I may need it in the future and I am stumped on how I get the library to recognise the new structure (it is almost like it is cached).

As a side point, I don't even know where it is getting the 81 albums/729 songs from in all honesty although I suspect they are my purchases from Apple (as they all have a Download arrow next to them)?

Does anyone have any advice please?

Many thanks in advance

Ian

When you are signed into an empty library with your Apple ID the library will list your unhidden purchase history allowing you to stream the tracks or download them to your local media folder. You can use View > Only Downloaded Music to hide this cloud content if required.

Setting the media folder for a library does not scan and add the files in that folder. Adding content has to be done separately, e.g. with File > Import.

Turingtest - many thanks for your response.

Unfortunately, what you play back is not what I have experienced previously. From within Music > Settings > Files > I can choose where my Music Media folder location is. And I have been doing this for probably close to 10 years. with no issues (other than when it sometimes losing connection, at which point I have historically just repointed it and it does its thing). Now, it does not seem to do that - in fact although it happily accepts the library being on my NAS it simply does not then present those in my Music app (which as I say it always has done previously). What this means is that "if" I chose to or have to buy a new phone I won't have my ~15k songs which is very frustrating :-(

I do understand what you are saying about it showing my purchase history so that I have "some" music, but the way this is now working is not how it has done previously. In fact even if I chose a location on my Mac it does nothing... maybe I am missing something?
