My charger and charging cable get too hot while charging

I have a brand new iPhone 14 pro max. My charger and charging cable get too hot while charging in a way that sting my fingers (especially the head that is entered in the phone). I am using the original cable that came with the phone. What should I do ?

iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 16

Is the power adapter you are using to charge your new iPhone made by Apple or another third-party? Regardless, during the charging process, both the adapter & the cable may get warm, but should not be "too hot to touch."

If they do, it could be for any of the following reasons:

  • The ambient temperature is too high.
  • The power adapter if poorly made or faulty.
  • The power source, at the wall outlet, is faulty.
