Mac Air M1, 2020 Batter and logic board failure

My Mac Air, that I bought just a year ago, won’t charge. I barely used it as I had another laptop. I was unaware that the a lithium ion battery device needs to be used on a regular basis for it to function optimally, and there was no way of knowing. An Apple Authorised Service provider also said that the logic board had failed upon running diagnostics. Now I have been advised to replace both. Costing me over ₹40000! I am frustrated and shocked over the deteriorating quality of Apple devices.

I am in touch with an Apple advisor, and hoping my case is considered as an exception and that these replacements are done free-of-cost.

Another friend who had a Mac Pro M1 had an issue with the logic board after using it for just a year. She had to get it replaced too, but she was lucky her device was still under warranty.

This tells me it’s not a one off case, and that M1 devices are turning out faulty. High-time Apple looks into it seriously.

A Little Bit of a Story for you:

My 2017 MBP's screen went dead and I sent it in every time --ending in 11 send ins. Eventually I wan granted a free upgraded Mac, being I was so patient and respectful to Apple (in recognition of how not all customers are respectful and helpful on a bug). So, send this in 11 times (seems ridiculous, but so) and maybe they'll do the same for you. So, be CoolCalm, and Collective, and you might just luck out like I did.

Provide Apple Feedback:

Do your Part: Report this issue to Apple. It occurred an M1 Mac --something Apple should be made aware of. Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what fixes to include in hardware and updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - MacBook - Apple Support
  2. Select: "Performance" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when this issue began, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

"We have the same problem. I had my Air M1 for 15 months. Initially the battery was not charging. I brought in for servicing and advised me to replace the board too. The battery was not even swollen and no liquid damage. The board replacement is around 80% of the price of my device. I am really regretting buying this laptop."

Did you Purchase AppleCare?

Next time you go about purchasing such an expensive device (an Apple device, in this instance), consider getting AppleCare with it. That may have avoided this price all together. See here: Buy an AppleCare Plan - Apple Support
