Exercise minutes are WAY too hard to get in Apple Watch

Rather than driving, I walked out, and it was hot out, which got me worked up. That didn’t even get me one exercise minute. Then, I took many flights of stairs quickly and STILL didn’t get even one. What on earth does it take to get exercise minutes, marathons?!

Your arms moving in a swing motion as they naturally would for most people when doing exercise activities is a big one (particularly if you are wanting the watch to recognize you are working out on its own). Climbing flights of stairs on its own doesn’t necessarily trigger exercise minutes since it all honesty just because you are walking up stairs doesn’t mean you are exercising. But if you manually initiate one of the exercise options on the watch for tracking (like Yoga, Outdoor walk, Indoor Walk, Run, etc) that will immediately start counting exercise minutes and will continue until you end the workout on the watch.
