Bent connector pin on an iPod classic.

I’ve noticed that my iPod classic (5.5 gen) has one bent pin.

Specifically, it is the left most pin when looking at the dock connector. Most refer to this as ‘pin 1’ but Apple seem to refer to the pin as ‘pin 30’ (right to left in other words). For the left most pin, its function is grounding (according to my research). I won’t be doing anything FireWire related to the iPod.

The iPod was ordered through eBay and may or may not have had the bent pin when I received it. On the day I got it, I checked it could charge, output headphone audio, sync with Music (macOS) etc etc. The hardware test was also passed (but I skipped over the USB/FireWire test - I had no reason to think anything was wrong.

I’ve tried bending the pin back to where it should normally sit but when I connect the charger cable it just gets bent back again.

Is this something I need to worry about when charging it from a wall outlet? I live in Germany where the standard is a two prong plug. I will also be using a standard Apple charger.

Thanks, WL

Discussion can be closed… I tried to straighten the pin a little more and it decided to fall out. Replicating normal charging conditions with the back reattached (and power from USB power bank) there was a distinctly awful smell. I decided to bring things to end.. an electrical fire or exploded lithium battery are things they nobody needs!

Will start over with another used iPod (the custom parts have already been ordered at this point).

Pity.
