Yes the carrier sends the notification to the phone. There is still a possibility the phone itself is delaying the notification after that is received. It might be rare. But as we all know iOS is not bug free.

The solution to issues like this is for Apple and the carrier to work together. A user should be able to submit a joint trouble ticket, so that the entire system from the carrier to the iOS layer can be tested. Without this… I don’t believe it will be resolved.

Anything is possible, but the assertion the phone might be delaying the notification is highly unlikely. HIGHLY UNLIKELY. The most likely culprit for this user is the use of a MVNO carrier, who gets their service from a prime carrier. There are just too many hands in the chain of delivering voicemail messages going the lesser expensive route of using a MVNO.

I've had friends go the MVNO route to save money, only to have loads of issues, like delayed voicemail messages. There's an old saying........"you get what you pay for."

I am on Verizon not a MVNO. So unfortunately that is not the reason. This issue has been reported on every major carrier in the US.

With all the millions of people who have cell phones, I'd be surprised if it wasn't reported on every carrier. Unfortunately, that doesn't tell us anything. Delayed notifications can be caused by many different things. It's like saying, "I have a fever." That doesn't tell you much about what is making me feel ill.

I agree. The problem could exist on iOS or the carrier level. I have opened and closed enterprise cases with both Apple/Verizon with no solutions.

With Apple and Verizon not working together what our options?

Unfortunately, when organizations get too large simple issues like voicemail notifications fall to the waste side and no one is held accountable.

What sometimes works with misbehaving carrier features is to have the carrier remove the feature from the account, let the account refresh in the switch (takes about a minute) and then add the feature back. In the case of Voicemail, it might be more than one feature: voicemail and voicemail notification. Depending on the carrier, there may be a third feature, visual voicemail. And no, it doesn't always work.

I don't know if this is helpful, but I have noticed that sometimes no voicemail appears until I open the Phone app. Then the Phone app icon gets a (1) on it and the voicemail appears. It's not always the case, sometimes the voicemail will show up on its own and notify me a few hours (or a day) after the message was left. It appears that the Phone app is doing something to "notice" that there is voicemail when I open it.

I have AT&T and my voicemails are ALWAYS delayed, sometimes by as much as several hours. I just now received a VM at 5:30 pm that was left at 1:00. Running iOS 17 on iPhone 15 pro, but I’ve had the issue as far back as iPhone 11. If it’s not a bug in the OS, I’ll eat my hat. Otherwise all carriers s**k and need to get with the program.

I have AT&T and my voicemail messages are never delayed. I'm on iPhone 15 Pro Max and now the latest iOS 17.1. If it's a bug in iOS, it's a very selective bug, which doesn't effect me or our other iPhone 15 Pro, also on iOS 15, or anyone in my office with iOS 15 on any number of models of iPhone.

You need to contact AT&T as this is not an iOS bug.

Unfortunately, we have seen this issue across every major carrier.

It’s our belief this will never truly be resolved until Apple and the major carriers work together.

Until then both sides will blame each other and the users are the ones that suffer.

Defusion of responsibility in action.

I tend to believe this issue occurs on the carrier level and iOS. Until proven otherwise.
