MacBook Air M1 Trade in what model

Hi, my name is Kristina I am a student and a mother of two children. I have a question a few months back I made the mistake of buying a MacBook Air M1 2020 with only 8 GB of RAM and 250 GB of internal storage. I bought the computer at Best Buy because I am a total tech member which Apple care is included for that computer. I spent $846 it was on. Sale for 799+ tax Instead of the $999 + tax. I bought this on April 1. I use the computer for school work typing up reports web browsing zoom watching movies I do not record zoom or any screen recordings because it takes up my ram. I am using about four gigs of RAM right now out of 8GB it is half gone. I was looking into the Exchange program since my computers is in perfect condition they said I would get $515 for that I would get as a gift card and then I can use that you purchase another Apple device. I do not want a big screen like the new 15 inch screen is way too big I need at least 16 gigs of internal storage. I like the M1 eight works great. I was thinking of possibly maybe getting an M1 with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB would cost $1079 and if I upgraded to 512 GB of internal it would cost $1259 and I get a discount on the Apple care as a student for three years only it will cost a total of $139 if I pay for it annually which cancels when I cancel it you get a maximum but I believe eight years of it is $64.99 per year. This is always my educational discount and I also get $150 gift card after I buy the computer but I can’t use it towards it. I only can use the $515 gift card for the M1 base model. I would like someone’s opinion if I should keep this because I would be losing out on $350. I’m still looking for an external hard drive because I’ve never backed up my computer with Time Machine and I don’t know which one to buy either so I would have to get an external before I did all of this, because they say you need to wipe the computer , if anyone could please help me let me know what computers they recommend I exchange it for

i’m not talking about an exchange it’s a trade it basically or buyback. Basically you tell them what model you have the condition of it and you either can get a credit at that exact time to get a new computer I already got a quote and apple said the $515 can’t come off a new device or I can get a gift card and order it online or in an Apple store or use it for any Apple product. They call it a trade in they call it a trade They do it with cell phones, iPads, and computers. I just wanna know if someone had an opinion since I have the base model M 1 which is late 2020 model that has 8gb IM using 3.97 ram and 44GB OUT of 256 for internal.

if I upgrade my ram since I am using four gigs right now that would be $1079 plus tax without the AppleCare I know that I have 60 days to purchase AppleCare you do three-year insurance it’s $139 all at once all or can pay $64.99 a year and that’s good until you decide to cancel it. You can get up to 10 years on that

Also, if I upgrade the ram to 16 and internals to 512 GB that’s $1259

I would like to know do you think it is worth doing this or do you think it is worth waiting another year or two to my computer has maxed out and buy a new.

I do need a new iPad right now because my iPad seven generation 32 gigs is using a 30.7. I can’t update to the new software because it takes 3.6 gigs. If I bought a new iPad, I was looking at the 10th generation, or the iPad Air fifth generation, and I would leave the MacBook alone. I would get Junior and 56 gigs of internal because 64 gigs is not enough and I will get the first generation pencil with the 10th generation iPad or the second generation pencil with the air. I just would appreciate someone’s opinion if it’s worth trading in the computer or just buying a new iPad.

also, if you have any suggestions on a external hard drive, so I can back up to the Time Machine and SSD or an HHD I really would appreciate that. Thank you.
