Creating a survey in Pages

I need to create a survey for a research project. I'd like to have checkboxes for participants to select. Having a difficult time trying to figure out how to do this in pages. Is there an easy way to create a survey?

Hi KFclem

Welcome to the forum. 🙂

Just style a question with following numbered options, or checkboxes as bullets in a list style, e.g.:

23. Question?

A. Answer A

B. Answer B

C. Answer C

D. Answer D

or

24. Question?

[] Answer A

[] Answer B

[] Answer C

[] Answer D

You could also make a placeholder version of the question and answer set, and repeat those through the questionaire.

I assume you are thinking of something along the lines of

question strongly agree agree agree somewhat disagree somewhat ....

Yes, you can do something like this. I'd set up two columns using text boxes probably and put the questions in one and the acceptable answers in the other. Copy and paste would make the second column go pretty quickly.

I was trying to cover all the bases since you didn't say anything in your original post about the medium.

Acrobat pro is only required if you are contemplating making a PDF form to be filled out on a computer and returned. Pages will be fine for a paper form, as I indicated.

Producing a good survey is an art. The word processor is just a tool of the artist. You need to decide what your objectives are and then design a format with questions that meet your objectives, without bias. We can help you with the mechanics of using Pages, but not so much with the design, although I'm sure you will get some opinions.

First understand what a placeholder is.

A placeholder is a snippet of text or an image that is completely selected and replaced by clicking on it or dragging text onto it.

So you can make the entire Question & Answer one place holder or you can make each part of it a placeholder so you can drag those components onto it.

To make a place holder, select the text or image:

+Menu > Format > Advanced > Define as Placeholder Text+

+Inspector > Layout > Columns+

Download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu and familiarise yourself with how Pages works.
