Can't see 5g in Carrier Option - iPhone 12 ios 16

I can't see any other options besides LTE and 3g in my carrier options, despite being on a 5g plan and inside 5g coverage.

Using esim, but physical sim was the same

I did an iOS update (from 16.2 to 16.6) which seems to have brought the options for 5g into my settings. While I doubt it was the update itself that fixed it, perhaps something that gets reset by an update did indeed fix my issue. Non of the documented fixes (linked above) had previously worked. I suspect a hard reset (vs just a network reset) would have also sorted me out.
