My iPad Pro M2 is suddenly behaving weirdly.

First time Apple user, bought this iPad Pro about 2 weeks ago and it had been working fine until today.

I put it to charge and suddenly it just shut down, had a black screen for a solid 10 minutes and it wasn’t responding to any command I gave. No response to the power or volume buttons, no indicator when I plugged in or pulled out charger. I read some articles and threads and found out the method to alternatively press the button closest to the power button, then the one furthest from it, and then hold the power button. I just have held it for almost 5 minutes while plugged in and then it turned on. When it had shut down unexpectedly, the battery was at 21%, but when it rebooted, it was at 25% which I found weird.

Since then, it has been behaving weirdly. I have a shortcut set up where it would speak a text if I plug it in and a different text when I pull the charger out. However, I t is not supposed to do that when I have silent mode on, right? I tested it a bunch of times to make sure it doesn’t and it didn’t. But today, after the black screen incident happened, it randomly kept saying both the texts alternatively even when the charger wasn’t plugged in, while being on silent mode as well.

It’s not supposed to do that, right? Am I doomed? Has my device malfunctioned?

I convinced my dad to buy it for me for note taking and college work and it’s my first Apple product/device ever. Please tell me it’ll be fine and I don’t need to already get it repaired?

Thanks.

The best thing that you can do if you feel it’s working in a way that it shouldn’t be. Take it to an Apple Genius Bar in an Apple Store. They will be able to diagnose it and tell if you if there is some hardware failure and if there is, it’s still under warranty so they will get you taken care of. If you don’t have an Apple Store near you, you can always get in touch with Apple Support online or through the phone and they can remotely check your hardware as well and again if there is a problem they can support you more from there. If there isn’t hardware issues, they can help you diagnose if there is software glitches or something going on. I wouldn’t get to worked up about it, the device is still new and even new devices can get hardware glitches so they will take care of you and get your sorted out.

I would get on it right away though and not wait for a really long time. If it starts to feel like it is okay but has some random things going on, there could still be some hardware issues that are intermittent and if you wait too long then they can really go out after the warranty is up and if you don’t have AppleCare+ then you’re really going to wish you had.

Perhaps if you were to have discovered this issue prior to the 'two-week' interval

there, could be returned to Apple Store. Or maybe an authorized Apple reseller..

The 'return or exchange' would be valid through Apple retail location. ~Or maybe

(at their discretion) an authorized Apple reseller; who is an independent business.

[Individual authorized Apple resellers usually won't accept other retailers products

but at their leisure or as kindness, they might [or not.]

If returning to original Apple retail store location, you may discuss the 14-day time

frame; see if their management may allow a little 'wiggle room' in there; if it's past.

"..If you haven't already, check whether you need an appointment before you go to a service location. For example, schedule a Genius Bar reservation before you go to an Apple Store. When you go, remember to bring these items:

  • Your sales receipt (if possible), in case your service requires proof of purchase
  • Your device and any accessories that you need help with
  • A form of personal identification, such as a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID.."

[Generally all Apple products have an original warranty. Additional AppleCare+

costs extra; but within '14-day period' from sale ~ an Apple store could accept

returns for any reason; but should not have physical damages. Ask about this.]
