Would like to change my pw online but am only able to do so on my handset. Is that the only way to change it?

I can change it all day on my handset in settings but when attempting to change it online, it doesn’t ‘take’. So I can only change it locally. I have security concerns & not that it would probably matter, I was attempting to make the change away from my handset… if that makes sense. Thank you.
