Mail Import Fail

on opening mail on my iMac, a dialog box opens saying mail import. On clicking continue the mail folders are imported but just before it is complete the import failed message comes on the screen. I am asked to check if I have enough space in my home folder. How do I do that when I cannot open mail?

This has happened before, often after power outages, but usually imports everything at the second attempt.

What size is your disk and how much empty space do you have?

Smallish disks, 120 GB and even 256GB, are prone to filling up rather quickly.

You need to leave 15-20% of you disk completely unused at all times.
