I can no longer log onto my yahoo (sbcglobal) mail account using MacBook Air

I have a 13", early 2015 MacBook Air running macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7. I am using Apple Mail, Version 13.4. Yesterday, the app showed I was not connected to my Yahoo (Sbcglobal) mail account (I also have a Gmail account- accessed via the app-and I am still logged into the Gmail account; no issues). When I try to log into the Yahoo account, it gives me a reply that "verification failed". I waited 1 day (thinking it may resolve itself), but still the same symptoms. I am able to log into my Yahoo account on Safari (in a tab), and I am still logged into the Yahoo account and Gmail account on my iPhone email (iPhone 12, iOS version 16.6)

I have attempted the following steps to try to fix this:

  1. Restart the computer
  2. Turn computer off then on
  3. Delete the Yahoo account from the MacBook Air mail app and reinstall
  4. Search for "com.apple.mail.plist" or another variation (On the "entire" computer, and specifically in the "Library" folder). That file does not exist on my computer

I have been having the following issues, which don't seem to be related (but everyone knows THAT doesn't matter!)

  1. Computer Fan has been running very loud. Fixed this somewhat by using Activity Monitor and a)logged out of iCloud, b)deleted something regarding a "keychain" and two other files that I can't freaking remember that were sucking CPU like crazy). I still need to clean the fan, but am waiting for the pentalope screw-drivers.
  2. Power button has not been working consistently (sometimes it works, sometimes I have to fool around with plugging and unplugging the power cord while pushing the button). I have done several SMC resets in an attempt to fix this. The power button is working more consistently, but still "acts up" occasionally.

The mail app has been working fine for 2 weeks, after the above changes. It has only had a problem in the last couple days.

Hopefully this is enough information to help someone give me an idea of what the problem could be. I'd like to just re-load the mail app, but haven't seen anything online other than reloading the entire OS. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for providing a clear message of what has transpired. It is helpful. First, knowing that you are able to access your Yahoo account via the browser tells us that the account is still valid and working. Also, that your user ID and passwords are still intact with Yahoo. Therefor, the problem resides in the Mail app. In order for the email app to connect to the email provider's server, an exchange of information takes place. The user ID and password must then be accurately sent to the server within a specified period of time or a disconnect occurs. If there is any difference in what data is transmitted and what is being looked for, the connection will not occur. Therefore, something is not being sent correctly. you state that you have deleted and reinstalled the Yahoo account in Mail. That will usually solved the problem, providing that your user data is correctly installed. I suggest that you open the email app and very carefully check  what you have entered for the user ID and password and correct it. Or if that still fails, then you will need to contact the email provider and work directly with them to resolve the problem. Good luck.
