This article details the correct way to sync music onto your device through iTunes on your PC. Your posting says iPod but the linked device shows iPad, so we're unsure which is correct but this article will work for iPads and iPods.
We also advise that you restart both iTunes and your PC. In addition, make sure that the songs are playable on your device to assure that they can be played through iTunes.
