When I do just as the above instructs, why do these same e-mails I sent to trash reappear? This happens on both my Apple 13Pro I phone and my Apple tablet?

I am continually frustrated. I get lots of e-mails and when I send them to trash, why do they reappear in my inbox? This even happens when I delete the e-mails already sent to trash

It may because you are using a POP mail server instead of an IMAP mail server. With the IMAP protocol, when you delete an email on any device, it is delete on every device. However the POP protocol can be set to only delete the email on the device and leave it on the server for others devices. See the reply to:

Another potential problem may be that your delete request doesn't get processed properly by the mail server. It may sometimes be necessary to use any available webmail interface to fix stuck items that won't delete. If that doesn't help research telnet, e.g. https://mingersoft.com/blog/2013/03/using-telnet-to-delete-mass-amounts-of-e-mail/.
