HomePod not connecting to AppleTV

Hi,

I post this as a help for others having the same issue.

After the initial connect everything worked super. HomePod connecting to AppleTV, connected over Ethernet, HomePod connecting via Airplay...

After I renamed my wifi network, the HomePod no longer works with the AppleTV.

Even after countless times returning the AppleTV to factory default.

The trick is that the AppleTV asks me to use the HomePods as default speakers and when I say "yes" all connectivity is dropped, but when I say "no", after the installation the HomePods are an option in the AppleTV settings under standard output.

I can now no longer use my HomePods as Airplay speakers, but can use the AppleTV as Airplay output, so that is good.

Apple needs to work on the user experience in my opinion...

The HomePod needs to be on the same home wifi network as the device used to set HomePod up. If this is an iPhone make sure it’s connected to the renamed network

For default audio settings see: Set up home theater audio with HomePod or HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K You will note the HomePod and Apple tv need to be assigned to the same room for this setting to work.
