Mac OS does not release deleted disk space

Mac Finder shows that 180Gb is free but Disk Utility only shows 27Gb and the machine keeps warning me that it is running out of space. This has happened before and the usual fixes such as 'empty the trash can' and 'run first aid' do not work. The only fix seems to be to format the drive and start again. Is there a disk utility that can fix this disk corruption? OS13.5.1 (22G90)

Parallels, macOS 10.13

Thank you, but I gave up and formatted the drive so its fixed again now. The challenge is that the purgeable space is not released. It is on OS13.5.1 (22G90) and has happened on a previous machine with a previous version of OS. These should be an easier way to force the purge.
