Macbook loses wifi after sleep mode and can't reconnect

This is extremely problematic as I can't just open my macbook I use for work and start working. After sleep mode it disconnects from wifi and I can't reconnect until it reboots which takes about 5-10 minutes with all the logins I have to do.

Why does it do this? It even shows it is connected to wifi on the wifi settings but it's not.

Are you very close to the WiFi router? Overlapping waves may confuse it.

If you are multiple floors from the WiFi router, the signal may be extremely weak, and you might need to setup either the WiFi as 2.4 Ghz instead of 5 Ghz, or get a wireless distribution point router halfway in between.

You may want to use screen saver instead of energy saver, and also look at Energy Saver wake LAN settings.

Yes autoconnect is on. I did try something different .

Last night before I closed it I disconnected wifi.

This morning I opened it and turned wi-fi on.

At first it showed no internet even though wifi showed connected.

Then after a minute, while I was answering these. Internet connection was established.

This may be a workaround to the hardware/OS "bug"

Actually it is worse. The bandwidth of WiFi is much less than that of ethernet or coax. So yes it can happen. I would experiment and see if you can temporarily remove all other items from WiFi to see if that's affecting it. Make sure the WiFi you are using a secure WPA2 encrypted WiFi, and not an open WiFi without a padlock. Make sure that you use 2.4 Ghz, as the 5 Ghz band is typically better on the same floor line of sight. The only thing that makes it better is the frequency hopping. When it gets real crowded, then it doesn't really matter.

"Never heard of a computer getting "crowded out" on wifi"

Never said you were "crowded out", but too many users on the same channel can, and often will, degrade performance to a significant degree.

I like app Wifi Explorer Lite to examine channel usage: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wifi-explorer-lite/id1408727408?mt=12

Channel usage is not limited to your house. Right now I can see seventeen networks all available for use. They are neighbors of mine. Sometimes, usually in the evening, I can see thirty or more.

The only way you'll ever know how crowded a given channel is will be with a network analyzer.

I know; LARGE picture right now:

My network is Da*nation.Alley. I'm in a residential neighborhood and you can't see all the networks because of lack of screen real estate on a 27" iMac.
