numbers If function

I’m trying to make a personal finance sheet, I want to make a section where I can use a drop down menu to said paid or not paid, and I want it to basically do (if paid) subtract the value of how much is paid to a total income to be what’s left over and if (not paid) to keep the total left over the same as before it was subtracted

What does your spreadsheet look like? To post screenshot, shift-command-4, select area, release, start new post here and insert the image from the Desktop using the mountains-and-moon 'Image insertion' icon.

For general ideas you might want to have a look at the built-in 'Checklist Total' template. It uses SUMIF to add an amount if you have checked a Checkbox; otherwise it does not add the amount. This sounds similar to what you are trying to do, except it adds instead of subtracting. You could easily modify it.
