How do you ensure it doesn’t double charge when you walk out of the subway?

When you get off the subway and are walking out through the turnstile. I’m worried it’ll charge me again if I turn on express transit mode. Is there a time limit or something?

You’re not charged to exit. The device must be in very close proximity (1 to 2 inches) for the payment method to work. The exit turnstiles I use don’t even have a payment terminal.
