Is iCloud upgrade necessary

I had an iPhone 11 and the base iCloud storage. Once I got the iPhone 13, I cleared up the files deleting photos and videos but the iCloud “can’t” run a back ip until I buy the next tier of iCloud storage. I’d this necessary?

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Usually not with one device and a small number of photos. It is possible that you now have 2 backups stored in iCloud since you now have an iPhone 13. The old one can be deleted by going to Settings > [name on top] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Review the devices that have backups saved at the bottom of the screen and if the iPhone 11 backup is still there you can tap on it and delete it.

No. Just clear space...

One unique method...

Download All of iCloud:

Save a Few: Rather than upgrading iCloud, download all of iCloud. Once downloaded, verify you can access this date. Once verified, trash what is in there, using the Search Bar on the top-right cornet of a Finder window on your MacPerform my User Tip: Getting a Quick and Direct "iCloud Drive-to-External Hard Drive" Download - User Tip.
