Is there any other way to print from an iPad if my printer is not AirPrint compatible? I have a Samsung x press M2070FW….it is connected to the same wifi as my iPad, I checked on the apple list of compatible printers and found the M2070-W but mine ends with FW so I’m not sure what the differences are.

Hi,

The Samsung Xpress M2070FW (a model with fax) is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support (en-us edition July 11, 2023), and should work without additional drivers, provided that the printer is connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as the iPad.

AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections. This printer (which has Ethernet in addition to wireless) could be wired to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router, if you so wish. With an Ethernet printer connection, some of the problems related to Wi-Fi may be avoided.

You may have to reset the printing system and re-add the printer.

Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

In case of a problem detecting the printer, it may be worth testing the following power-cycle procedure (do not forget the router):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the iPad, any iPhones and Macs, and all other computers/devices. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the iPad. Power on any iPhones and Macs. Finally, power on all other computers/devices.

The best source of information about your Samsung printer will be its User Manual - and Samsung’s own online support.

For AirPrint, see:

Apple AirPrint is a driverless connection protocol. A high proportion of modern printers intended for Home, SoHo and Business environments now support AirPrint. Check your printer model against this list:

About AirPrint - Apple Support

If your printer is not compatible with AirPrint, there are alternatives…

Some printer manufacturers have a suitable companion App that provides Print capabilities for mobile devices, often using a web-based print service. Others can print directly if the App supports other network printing protocols. By example, some HP Printers use the HP Smart App - available in the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/hp-smart/id469284907

You might also consider connecting a non-AirPrint printer to a Windows PC or Mac computer - and install a “helper application” that allows the computer to emulate AirPrint capabilities; one such option is Readdle Printer Pro, for which suitable software for PC is available. A link to the PC software is included from this page:

https://readdle.com/printerpro

A further alternative is to consider installing a dedicated Print Server Appliance on your network - and connect your printer to this. One example is the Lantronix xPrintServer.

The remaining (and often cheapest) solution is to simply replace your printer with one that is AirPrint capable.

Correction:

>and should work without additional drivers,

should read

and should work without an additional app,

Please disregard the following (only for Macs):

>You may have to reset the printing system and re-add the printer.

>Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)

>Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)
