Why does my mic produce low volume in FCP?
For years I have been used to seeing my various mics record very low volume in FCP even though the gain had been pushed to maximum. I have always had to boost the volume later with the volume adjustment line.
As a result, I assumed that they were not very good at picking up audio.
However, I have just been using one in Resolve and the VU meter is hitting red in the identical recording conditions!
In the examples below, I had my mic about 6 inches from my mouth and in FCP the meter was barely reaching -20db as you can see in the screenshot whereas in Resolve the same recording situation was pushing it into the red. Normally in Resolve I would have the mic at least a foot away.
Is there an explanation?
