Auto-share of ETA on Apple Maps is not working for home/work destination

For the past year or so the Share ETA option stopped working on both my Home and Work Favorites in Apple Maps. I can't add anybody via the Share ETA option. I select it, add a contact, it shows them. After I save it and go back into the favorite it is gone. It just refuses to save for Home or Work. I can successfully add a contact to ANY OTHER favorite. But Home and Work refuse to accept one. I briefly saw this work again in one of the random ios16 updates during the year but then it went away on the next update. It continues to not work on the ios17 betas.

Anybody else seeing this or have a solution?

I saw another post for this same issue, link below.

I had the exact same issue after updating to 17.2. Removing addresses and deleting my contact details restored the ability to share my work address but not my home address.

What has just worked however is to disable maps in iCloud, exit the iCloud menu level, restart maps, then re-enable maps in iCloud.

I’d tried this before but either didn’t wait long enough before re-enabling maps in iCloud or didn’t restart maps.

my wait duration this time around was about 30 seconds

Interestingly, if I changed my home address to a different street number I could share, but only the first time. If I changed it back to my number then back to the random number it didn’t work.

I just found a solution to this finally after well over a year battling this! Each step seemed to be key.

  • Delete Home in my contact (i have contacts synced with Google so I have a merged contact between google and icloud)
  • Switch to Maps to verify the Home favorite disappeared (key step)
  • Go back to contacts to add Home again. This results in TWO homes being added to the merged contact (seems like a bug but whatever).
  • Go back to Maps to verify Home was re-added as a favorite. Edit favorite. Click Share ETA and select a person. Save it and exit. Re-edit to to verify the Share ETA setting stayed put (it used to vanish at this point)
