Hullo,
when redacting text in preview I see the expected black boxes and Xs. I save the file, close it.
when opening it, I find that the redacted text remains searchable and copyable - if I copy text before, including and after the redaction, I see the redacted text in the paste (e.g. in notes).
What to do?

FWIW, I cannot reproduce the issue in Monterey and later. Once redacted, the text is neither searchable or copied.
I cannot reproduce this issue in macOS Monterey or Ventura, whether performing a subsequent search in Preview, or programmatically performing a PDF search using Apple's PDFKit framework.
