Photos : “Please unlock iPhone” message appears even though iPhone is already unlocked

If I plug my iPhone into my Mac, (iOS 16.6 & macOS 13.4.1) the "Please unlock iPhone" message appears, even when the iPhone is already unlocked. If the iPhone was locked, unlocking it does not cause the message to go away. Most of the time, but not always, eventually, the Mac begins to download photos from my iPhone (a long process in itself). What's going on and how do I fix this?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13

Hello,

Hmm, it seems like that you might have a bad connection between your phone and your mac. See this:

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

Good luck.
