Imac is slow to respond

My iMac is slow. There is no history to delete. Any other suggestions?

Slowness can be due to any of a variety of reasons. Optimization software actually slows Macs down.

Antivirus and firewall software do too. Allowing the hard disk to get over 85% full can also slow your Mac down. If you don't know what is installed on your Mac, and want an diagnostic of what's needed, follow the directions on this article to post Etrecheck report:

If you can tell us what functions are slow, and if you have ever seen any better speed before, tell us what's changed. Also is your data backed up?


Overreliance on upstream internet connections can also slow your Mac down, trying to synchronize with iCloud, or trying to operate the Mac while it is backing up is another problem.
