when I spoke to an apple care representative she insisted that the orange light means that I am listening to audio or video. Why does this article say that it only means the microphone is being used?

I noticed an orange circle above the cell signal strength bars on the upper right of the phone. I understood this to mean that the microphone was on. I closed all my apps and turned microphone access off on the privacy settings. When I spoke with the Apple care rep, she insisted that the orange light comes on whenever I am listening to audio or video. I was not able to confirm this information through the apple support site which states that the orange light is indication of the microphone. The apple rep got annoyed with me for asking her where it says this and hung up on me when I asked to speak to another rep.
