Mac book air set up

I recently bought a Mac book air. Before bringing it home I had the Apple Store transfer information from my old computer to the new one. I am now in the process of starting up my new computer, following all instructions. I am now at the part it says ‘transferring your information’, where the screen says ‘starting up’ and the blue line is moving back and forth indicating I think something is happening. It’s been in this mode for over 6 hours. Is something wrong?

thoughts? Thanks again.

After Getting a Device Back from Apple:

You should do as Apple instructs you.

My Opinion of where to Go from here:

If transferring items over is the responsibility of Apple, then I would assume that that was never performed on their end. So, you should contact Apple Support immediately, asking them where to go from here, on your end, and what responsibilities you have as a customer. I’m sure that all of this is mentioned, BTW, in the Terms & Conditions on an invoice or on any work order provided to you when dropping off and picking up your device.

Apple Support Contact Us Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as necessary
  • Note: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

Troubleshooting Slow Data Transfer:

How slow is your other Mac? If is has lagged recently, then this will take some time. If there is atlas one TB of data, it will take sometime. So, give it a few more hours. If not success, take it back to the Apple Store for service.

The Littles

thank you for the insight. My old Mac was very slow, but the Apple Store assured me they were able to successfully transfer all the data to the new computer before I brought it home to set up. Now I’m wondering if the ‘transferring your information’ step is not necessary during the set up stage since perhaps the Apple Store already took care of that issue prior to me taking the new computer home.

thoughts? Thanks again.
