My MacBook Air 2017 is too slow. Need help in fixing the issues highlighted by etrecheck

Hi,

My MacBook Air 2017 is extremely slow and freezes up on times. I also have issues during startup, it take mes approx 2-3 min for the Mac to start and display the login screen. I ran the etrecheck report and have attached herewith. Any help on decoding will be highly appreciated.

Complete agree with @kaz-k.

I'm not a macOS software expert, but if uninstalling BitDefender doesn't fix it, then I would wonder about the Wondershare software that is installed since that is not something I've seen in other EtreCheck reports so that software seems less common. You could try booting into Safe Mode to see things improve....if so, then Wondershare would be something to look at.

Note: After uninstalling BitDefender, reboot the computer. Then run EtreCheck again to see if any of those BitDefender files are still reported (especially if "loaded" or "running") which would indicate BitDefender has not been completely uninstalled.

If completely uninstalling BitDefender does not help, then how long have you been using the Crucial SSD in this laptop? Many times when using an M.2 SSD, the SSD Adapter is the cause of problems. From reading these forums for years, it seems like the Sintech SSD adapter is the most compatible & reliable adapter.

Also, make sure to disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

As others already stated remove "Bitdefender".

Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk. Removing it is the first step in diagnosing an ailing Mac. Often, it's the only step.

disk0 - CT1000P2SSD8 1.00 TB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes)

User-installed SSDs are not a supported hardware modification. It's up to you if you choose to do that, but you're on your own.

Long startup times are a common symptom of third party SSDs. Apple has no interest in testing or evaluating their operation, and certainly will not care if a macOS update (including firmware updates) break them. Many macOS upgrades and some updates have included new startup drive firmware. After modifying a Mac in that manner you must always be mindful of that fact.

Time since boot: About 18 days

Presumably you last noticed that slow startup time 18 days ago? After removing the junk, restart your Mac in the usual manner. Test.

No Time Machine backup - Time Machine backup not found.

You did not ask about it specifically, but if do not back up your Mac, it means the prospect of permanently and irretrievably losing all the information on it does not concern you. Not everyone does, so if you're one of them that's perfectly ok.
