transfering large files from photos app

I'm transferring large files from my photos app to finder (to categorize etc), then to store externally. Is there any way to facilitate the transfer rate from the app?

I'm running an M1 pro with 16gb and 1 tb, and was running Monterey and just updated to Ventura, but don't expect that to change much.

The file I'm working on currently is 27gbs (1 hour 4k), and was processing for up to 4 hours before I gave up. There was no progress on the little progress wheel, which leads me to believe it was still prepping the file for transfer. I have tried a number of smaller files (5-15gbs) with similar result.
