Below are the specs for my iMac. How can I determine which iOS I should be using?
iMac (21.5 inch - Late 2012)
Processor: 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB

Be aware that depending what system you're currently running upgrading to Catalina my require you to replace many of your apps which are 32 bit with their 64 bit upgrade or an alternate app. The free GO64 app will tell you which of your current apps will not work with Catalina.

@ekassos Great. That is what I have. My computer recently became very slow (10 minutes to open google, log into email and send a 2 sentence email). Someone suggested I may be using the wrong OS. Thank you for confirming.
@oldtoad Yes. Many of my apps are now greyed out. By replace them, do you mean go to the app store and reload? I just assumed I could no longer use them.
Some vendors released 64-bit versions of their 32-bit apps. E.g., Microsoft (Office), or Adobe (Photoshop). Some of the updates were available for free (inside or outside of the App Store); others, for a charge.
Since Catalina is no longer one of the most recent three versions of macOS, some vendors who once offered Catalina-compatible versions of their apps may have discontinued those versions.
