Locking screen while app is open

In iPhone, should I go to home screen before locking the screen?

Does it make any difference for battery consumption?

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 16

Locking a Screen while an App is Open:

Locking the screen can be done whether with an app one or close, as long as the app permits it. When installing iOS updates, for example, you cannot lock it. As for battery consumption, it would make a difference, being your screen is not on.

Let me ask in different way.

If I’m using WhatsApp or playing a game. After using if I just lock the phone without going back to Home Screen and put it on the table, how does it make a difference with going to Home Screen and then locking the phone?
