Thanks for the help. It turned out my significant other had turned off family sharing on her device.
We had been sharing a calendar for years, and I was panicking because all my appointments disappeared.
When turned on with her device (she was the one who originally set up the shared calendar) the iCloud backup restored all my/our data!
A side lesson: Be nice to your sweetheart, you are vulnerable in SO many ways!!😉🤣
