Sony CFExpress Type A <100MB/S Transfer Speed to M1 MBP

I have a 160GB Sony CFExpress Type A TOUGH card that I use with a Delkin Devices CFexpress Type A & UHS-II SDXC Memory Card Reader connected to my M1 Macbook Pro (running the latest Ventura OS) to move RAW files from my A7IV. I purchased the setup approx. 4 months ago. If I recall correctly, I got around 500-600 mb/s when moving the files from the camera to my computer and sometimes directly onto my Sandisk Professional G-Drive 4TB SSD.

After a 2-month hiatus from photography work, I am now getting less than 100 mb/s speeds, doing the same workflow, and seemingly without any changes. During that same period, my Sandisk SSD became virtually inoperable (only 4 months old) and is now being replaced by Sandisk.

I ran a BMD disk speed test and selected the card connected with the reader as the target drive.... ~35mb/s read/write. I know this cannot be normal.

Can anyone help? Is this an issue with my computer?

Can you insert the UHS-II SDXC card into the SDXC slot on the side of the M1 Mac Book Pro and measure that transfer speed with BMD?

The CF Type A card is not compatible with the SDXC slot. I have a Sony 128GB UHS-II card with a read speed of 277 mb/s. I tested transferring the from that Sony UHS-II card from both the internal Mac reader (SDXC slot) and an external reader. The speed difference was significant, with a 7GB transfer taking less than 60 seconds on the internal Mac reader and almost 20 minutes on the external (Delkin) reader.

Personal preferences notwithstanding, you might look into the new Crucial X10 Pro 4TB SSD that is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 drive offering 2000 MB/s rated speed instead of Sandisk drives.

I am unlikely to be of further help with your card usage as I don't use them, but do use Crucial X8 (1050 MB/s) drives for Time Machine backups or hosting Virtual Machine guests.

My experience with all cards is they are dismally slow compared to a good quality portable SSD, and still lag behind a name brand HDD.

And that's not to even mention [un]reliability.
