while it is possible to skip over some macOS while upgrading, I have seen cases where the user runs into issues while trying to do that. and especially considering the major changes between Mojave and Monterey, I would recommend upgrading from Mojave to Catalina and then on to Big Sur before attempting to get to Monterey.

Addition points to consider.
Is the current version of macOS 10.14 Mojave running the the current version 10.14.6 and all the Security Updates ?
If not, suggest doing that before attempting any upGrade to a newer version of macOS
Suggest having at least 50 GB of Empty Space on the drive.
It will allow the Full Version ( about 12.xx GB ) to download, expand and then commence to install.
If there is Third Party Security Software installed - remove it.
It will interfere with both the download and installation process
